Test musician’s cables

  1. Plug  AC cords of all equipment directly into a wall outlet.
  2. Connect the cable in the correct direction.  The Audio Envy label will be on the guitar side of the connection.
  3. Initially set your guitar and amps tone to produce a balanced full range of sound.   Adjust by ear to achieve a beautiful clean guitar sound. Check pickup selection. Scooping some midrange can be desirable.
  4. Reduce compression settings to the lowest effect. Turn off any menu settings that mask sound quality.
  5. Make sure that your instrument has full output.
  6. Test the cable directly into a mixer with headphones or PA system as an additional source of reference.   These systems can be more accurate than guitar cabinets.
  7. Allow cable and gear to warm up.  Get into playing for a moment before making any judgments.  Do not quickly jump back and forth between cables.  Neither of them will sound as good as they will after being played for at least a minute.
  8. *For fun, if you would like to reverse the cable connection, you may experience an alternate tone. Reversal can be used as an effect, but should not be judged for linear reproduction.

  8. Play a Wave file — not a compressed music file! — that is well recorded, – Listen for Increased resolution, extended delicate highs and deeper lows.
  9. Then mute the amp and plug in a typical cable. Return to the same volume settings.  Does it sound different?
  10.  Do not quickly jump back and forth between cables.  Neither of them will sound as good as they will after being played for a minute. (Part of this is the Brains DSP)
  11. You might experience different distortion side effects, In some cases etched out midrange and mid bass slam are a type of signal distortion.  You now have an Audio Envy cable as a reference point for accuracy.
  12. Plug the Audio Envy cable back in and take a load off.

If you do not experience this, give us a call or email. Something is likely incorrect with your setup masking or distorting the sound.
