The evolution of microphone cable technology.

Posted on:

Because balanced microphone technology has better common mode noise rejection and often a higher output signal, It is believed that all microphone cables produce the same sound. However they do not take into consideration the signal alteration imposed by the cable itself. Some examples are: internal magnetic interference, quality of conduction, the insulator and its effect on the magnetic field.

Audio Envy’s cable technology is a solution for and of this decade. Conventional mic cable technology was invented around 1940-50. Star quad technology was developed in the 30s for telephone. It became popular in microphone cables around 20 years ago. It’s main benefit is against external noise; It utilizes a similar construction method to conventional cable, with four leads of wire instead of two.  Unfortunately it alters the signal wave more.

Is the foundation for people’s beliefs built upon testing cables of similar construction? Therefore producing similar results?
